The Mantle
The mantle is the second layer of the earth. It is split into two sections, the upper mantle is called the Lithosphere and the lower mantle is called the Asthenosphere. It is also the thickest layer, the thickness is approximately 2900 km thick, with the two parts of the mantle put together. The whole mantle takes up 84% of the earth, that's a lot! The mantle is where the convection currents happen.Convection currents happen with the hot liquid, which is less dense goes up becomes dense and cools and comes back down causing the plates to move. The whole mantle is approximately 2500
to 3000° C.
